Abstract: Just recently, random lasers have drawn the interest of scientists both because of their potential applications and because of the physics behind the random lasing process. Random laser emission is characterized by spectral narrowing above the laser threshold and broad-angle emission. In addition, the emission from a diffusive random laser maintains a high level of coherence, despite the multiple scattering. Generally, random lasers are easy to fabricate and cheap, can distribute spectrally selective and reasonably coherent emission over a broad angular range. The production of random lasers could be cheaper than that of light emitting diodes (LEDs).
