The article “Dispensing nano-pico droplets and liquid patterning by pyroelectrodynamic shooting” by P. Ferraro, S. Coppola, S. Grilli, M. Paturzo & V. Vespini has been published online in the section “Advance online publication (AOP)” of Nature Nanotechnology and is going to appear in the number of June of the journal.

The article presents a new concept of electrohydrodynamic-based droplet generation called pyro-electrohydrodynamic shooting for direct drawing and dispensing droplets down to atto-litres and radius down to around 300 nm from liquid drop or film reservoirs. This technique does not require electrodes, high voltage circuit connections or special capillary nozzles, in fact the electric fields are generated pyroelectrically using functionalized substrates of Lithium Niobate.
