One of the most sensitive spectroscopic techniques, namely cavity ring-down, has been extended by a group of researchers at INO-CNR to the saturated-absorption regime for the gas. The improvement is twofold: increased sensitivity through a more effective removal of background fluctuations due to the empty cavity, and sub-Doppler frequency resolution is obtained.
