Abstract: Perceptive and cognitive dynamics

Neurons are mutually coupled through electrical pulses. The conventional visualization techniques (EEG, fMRI) are characterized by low spatial resolution. We plan to investigate the single units and their couplings by means of the following methods: 1. Development of high sensitive interferometry though the use of “slow” light 2. Pulse visualization by means of interferometry and digital infrared holography on three types of samples (i. in vitro neurons; thin slices of rat brain, iii. plant cells) 3. Analog simulations with laser diode networks, LED networks 4. Analog simulation with oscillators characterized by a large number of modes as in a liquid crystal valve 5. Psychophysics of transient ambiguous perceptive stimuli (time dependent Gestalt) 6. Theoretical modelling of the brain collective dynamics.
