Our work was mainly theoretical and was based both on analytical modeling and numerical simulations, both using an originally developed code for electromagnetic propagation on dielectric surfaces and self-consistent, electromagnetic particle-in-cell simulations of laser-plasma interactions performed on parallel supercomputers.
The work has been the basis for a devoted experimental campaign in an European facility, aiming to demostrate resonant surface wave absorption at the highest intensities reported so far using ultrahigh contrast pulses.
INO’s Experiments/Theoretical Study correlated:
Intense laser interaction with structured targets and high field plasmonics
The Scientific Results:
1) Efficient laser-overdense plasma coupling via surface plasma waves and steady magnetic field generation2) High power laser-grating interaction3) Effects of Grating Depth on Surface Wave Excitation and Electron
