Abstract: In recent years there has been an enormous development in the understanding of light transport in disordered materials, in particular in systems with optical gain. A phenomenon termed random lasing can be observed, which can be used to realize a random laser. We will described the behaviour of these facinating new light sources that resemble in various respects a regular laser while the lasing process is based on light diffusion.
