Abstract: The role played by Giuseppe Campani in the development of telescopes and his major achievements and contributions towards early astronomy are discussed. The telescopes of Campani were usually conceived as system devices with a high quality objective and a choice of eyepieces to vary the configuration and the magnification. The overall impression is that such devices were very well engineered as to the optical layout and the system configuration and were manufactured close to perfection, considering the technology available at that time. Campani continued producing telescopes of excellence which made him the most celebrated optical instrument maker of his time.
