Primary activity: Our research activity focuses on the investigation of solid-state spin systems, and their applications to quantum science and technologies. We aim at realizing novel quantum sensors exploiting the spin associated to fluorescent quantum defects in diamond, with nanoscale spatial resolution and sensitivity to single electron spins, with strong focus to biological applications. We also use diamond spins to explore fundamental open problems in physics, with particular focus on the thermodynamics of quantum information processing in nanoscale quantum devices.
