October 13, 2023Over the last decade experiments in classical and quantum fluids have enabled the simulation of several aspects of black hole physics and quantum field theory in curved spacetime, culminating with experimental evidence of Hawking radiation and Penrose superradiance. A Perspective Article recently published in Nature Review Physics discusses the potential use of hydrodynamic systems towards the exploration of quantum gravitational effects, from the resolution of curvature singularities at the Planck scale to the emergence of spacetime geometry from quantum degrees of freedom.
