Maggiori informazioni: In this contribution, a concise insight into the recent advancements in the multi/hyper spectral imaging will be given. Moreover, the benefits of the cutting-edge properties and improvements of our visible-near infrared (VIS-NIR) optical scanning device will be demonstrated by presenting results obtained on artworks by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti or Édouard Manet. In fact, the point-by-point illumination, scanning and detection with proper catoptric optical system insures the homogeneous illumination of artwork and acquisition of VIS-NIR images that are metrically correct, aberration free, calibrated and perfectly registered. What is more, the two-fold character of obtained data, in spectral and spatial domain, allows for the chemical and spatial characterization of the pigments, especially when complemented with other analytical techniques. Thanks to its uniqueness, our device travels on a request around the world to provide the service to the restorers, art historians, and conservation scientist, for example within the European project (www.iperionch.eu) or based on an individual proposal.
