Average dispersion decreasing densely dispersion-managed fiber transmission systems

Abstract: An average dispersion decreasing densely dispersion-managed (A4DM) fiber line was proposed which improved the performance of high-speed optical transmission systems. A chirp-free Gaussian pulse that propagated well in A4DM lines as a fixed point with same input parameters for any amplification distance and with minimal intrachannel interaction was demonstrated. It was suggested that the A4DM soliton, which could propagate with a reduced energy compared to that of its counterpart densely-dispersion-managed (DDM) soliton, might reduce the impact of nonlinear effects.
