Abstract: By considering the full frequency-dependent dispersion and birefringence properties of a photonic crystal fiber, we found that fourth-order dispersion has a striking influence on the spectrum of modulation polarization instabilities with either group or phase birefringence phase matching. The lower threshold is frustrated and an upper threshold is created for linear birefringence values that lead to parametric gain.
